We made it to the islands!
It is always an adventure in travel getting on a Grecian ferry out to the islands. It is a combination of long lines, suitcases, and lots of fast-moving people and cars. But we clambered aboard and disembarked like a well-oiled machine – and after climbing the Acropolis the day before no less! It was certainly a busy and energetic 48 hours from Canada to the Greek islands.
Once we boarded the ferry and started to move, Athens drifted into the background and the Aegean Sea glistened merrily in front of all of us. It turns out the town of Aliki, on the island of Paros, is a beautiful, calm and wonderful town to catch up on schoolwork while mingling with peers. Classes are in full swing, and the entire group has been seen smiling, swimming, reading, studying, and eating!
We are continuously encouraging all the kids to drink lots of water and slather on the sunscreen as the temps are sticking to the low 30s and it is consistently humid, but everyone seems to be feeling better and better as the days go by. We keep seeing new friendships evolving and a very good-humoured and charismatic gang of kids from across the country having a fantastic adventure.
Tomorrow we are off to Antiparos, a beautiful little island next to Paros, for a little shopping, lunch and swimming. On Saturday we are going on a boat excursion for those keen to jump aboard a local sailboat for an afternoon of swimming.
Here are a few pics from our first three days here in Greece, and we are just getting started!
