TRAVEL PROGRAMS

Although the schedule will vary by day and location, days will largely follow the pattern of breakfast and dinner as a group with free time for lunch. Classes will take place for approximately half the day with organized activities for the remainder of the day. Students will have a strictly enforced curfew each night, students will be personally checked into their room by a staff member.

In order to be sure that all of the curriculum is covered and that students are able to fully experience the travel component of the program, virtual, synchronous classes will be held the week prior to departure.

The records and reporting structure of this program will be identical to a summer school course taken at one of our Academies. Report Cards will be sent to the student’s home school upon completion of the course.

Educational travel programs at Blyth Academy are opportunities for students to travel to various destinations while participating in structured learning experiences. These programs combine academic study with hands-on activities and cultural immersion.

Students in grades 10-12 can enroll in one of our educational travel programs. For our OSSD credit programs we will typically offer several courses at the grade 11 and 12 level. Students in grade 10 will have the opportunity to enroll in an upper level course assuming they meet all prerequisite requirements.

Our educational travel programs offered at Blyth Academy are between 3 and 4 weeks in the summer and 2 weeks in the spring.

Destinations will vary each year based on demand and seasonality. In the past we have offered trips to Europe, South America and Asia.

Yes, on top of gaining an OSSD credit, students will enhance their understanding of the course material through experiences and immersions that can not be achieved in the classroom. Small classes of 10 students run by enthusiastic and well-traveled teachers contribute to the overall success of the course.

Activities may include guided tours, museum visits, workshops, beach days, service-learning projects, and hands-on learning experiences related to the academic focus of the trip. In addition, each trip will typically offer optional excursions at an additonal fee.

Students can select from a range of available trips based on their interests and academic goals. Information about upcoming trips will be provided in advance. You can reach out to our admissions team for more information.

The ratio of staff to students is approximately 1:10. All staff members are responsible for supervision. This is a school program and students will be required to follow the same rules that apply on all school trips. The Blyth Academy Code of Conduct will be enforced. This is a “no drinking, no drugs” program.

The program will allow students to participate in “experiential learning” of the best type. Classes may happen at the hotel, at a local historical site, a park or on an excursion. We will cover all of the required components of the Ontario curriculum which will be tailored to the travel experience. For example, in English the novels and plays studied will relate to the cities we travel to. Imagine studying Julius Caesar while in Rome! Or Equity and Social Justice in Costa Rica on a tour lead by our local guide.

Travel is truly unique in that it expands our students' view of the world. We constantly hear back from students about their amazing experiences with memories and friends that carry on for decades after the trip. It is not only about earning a credit, it's about enhancing their cultural awareness and personal growth through unique travel experiences.

The cost varies by destination and itinerary but generally includes airfare, accommodations, breakfast & dinner, transportation, entry fees for attractions, city guidance, taxes and academic instruction & material. Detailed cost breakdowns will be provided for each trip.

Trips are designed to align with the curriculum and include structured learning activities, guided discussions, and reflection exercises. Teachers integrate trip experiences into classroom learning before and after the trip.

A detailed packing list will be provided for each trip, including necessary clothing, travel documents, personal items, and any specific equipment or materials needed for activities.

Parents will receive regular updates via email or an online portal. Teachers and trip leaders will provide summaries of daily activities and any important information regarding the trip.

Students must first complete the registration form, select their preferred trip/course and pay the deposit. Our team will then review the application to ensure eligibility. Payment and enrollment deadlines will be provided for each trip. Contact admissions for more information.

In the event of a cancellation or rescheduling, families will be notified immediately, and options for rescheduling or refunds will be provided. We aim to minimize any inconvenience and ensure fair solutions for all participants.
