Team Canada Golfer James Newton thanks Blyth Academy Online for helping make him a success on and off the green

This summer, 18-year-old Ottawa native and Blyth Academy Online (BAO) student, James Newton, was crowned the Ontario Junior (U19) Boys’ Champion during the 99th Junior Boys’ Golf Championship at Whistle Bear Golf Course. James’ dedication to his game involves extensive travel and international commitments. As a high school student, balancing athletics and academics is only made possible through flexible learning that allows for intense training and scheduling. As a Blyth Academy Online student, James can concentrate on his athletics while staying on course in his high school academics. The ability to complete a course from anywhere, anytime, with one-click access to teacher support, allows him to work towards his Ontario Secondary School Diploma at his own pace.

“Blyth Academy Online is great. BAO allows me to study and pursue my athletic training at the same time - both to a very high standard. The flexible schedule allows me to focus on elite golf training and a demanding tournament schedule, as well as my academic courses. I enjoy the way I learn with BAO and I’m grateful for all the support their system provides for students like me. I've been fortunate enough to have a lot of success this year,” said James.

James recently became an official member of Team Canada and will attend Rutgers University on scholarship to play for the Men’s NCAA Division 1 Golf Team in the Big10.

“BAO is a big reason for this success,” he said.

Since 2020, James has completed several courses with BAO while maintaining an average above 85 percent. In 2022, James will graduate with his Ontario Secondary School Diploma as a Blyth Academy Online student, Ontario Junior Champion, and member of Team Canada.
