Private Courses

Blyth Academy Private Courses provide students in Grades 9 – 12 with a one-on-one learning experience in which teachers tailor the lessons to the needs and schedule of the individual student. Whether you are looking to reach ahead, fill in gaps from prior coursework, or seek mastery of a subject, Blyth Academy Private Studies allows you to earn a high school credit in our most personalized learning environment. Schedules can be tailored to fit almost any requirements, and the hourly rate compares favourably to tutoring costs, and unlike tutoring, results in a fully accredited course being earned.

Similar to our academically rigorous in-class lessons, our virtual classes are structured with set start and end times, and deadlines are established for assignments, tests, and final exams. Classes are live and conducted through ZOOM video chat using a shared screen. Our teachers plan and execute lessons using PowerPoint, videos and white boards in real-time, allowing for students to have their questions answered directly

Our teachers are equipped to deal with most learning accommodations, and are fully up-to-date with the latest Ontario Ministry of Education curricula and evaluation policies. Blyth Academy campuses will consider applications from mature students (20 years +) to study in private courses; however, mature students must have an admissions interview with the campus before being enrolled in any course. Mature students are encouraged to consider enrolling in Blyth Academy Online courses as an alternative.

Private courses are limited at some campuses. Please contact the Private Course Coordinator at parttime@blytheducation.com if you have specific questions before registering.

Wondering how Private Courses at Blyth Academy differ from tutoring?

The Difference Between a Tutor and a Private Course

Families often come to us and ask if we offer tutoring and it’s time to set the record straight. The short answer is no, we’re a high school that offers classes for credit. The long answer is a bit more complicated.  Like traditional tutoring companies, we offer students the opportunity to work one-on-one with teachers in a subject that they need extra support or flexibility in. But this is where the similarities end because unlike traditional tutoring services, we offer this support through private courses, which allow students to earn a credit at the end.
