This not only gives your teenager a competitive edge and eases the transition to Grade 9, but also allows them to gain an advantage over their peers and prepares them for the increased rigour of high school coursework ahead.

Designed to accelerate academic progress and ease the transition to high school, Pre-Launch offers a specialized curriculum for Grade 7 and 8 students. To promote Blyth Academy's signature learning environment that's both engaging and enriching, Pre-Launch students are selected based on academic strength and past performance.

GRADE 7

A class for academically strong and mature students that follows a standard middle school curriculum and timetable. Students gain knowledge and a deep understanding in core subjects such as Science, Math, Language Arts and History while also being provided with experiential education such as community outreach, field trips, wellness programs, exposure to the arts, and opportunities for self-discovery.

Thanks to active exposure to the high school environment and teachers who provide academically rigorous coursework, our Grade 7 students will be well-prepared for the comprehensive Grade 8 program.

GRADE 8

An enhanced Grade 8 curriculum that is designed to help students smoothly transition to Grade 9 and develop a strong foundation for high school. With the added benefit of a boost in Arts, Physical Education, and our signature LaunchPad program, our Pre-Launch students experience a highly engaged and rigorous learning environment built on academic success, social growth, and overall well-being.

Pre-Launch Summer Camp: August 11-22, 2025
High school prep for students aged 12-15.

The Blyth Academy Pre-Launch summer camp is designed to prepare students with the necessary literacy, mathematical and personal skills for secondary education. The program acts as a stepping-stone between middle school educational programs and high school educational programs. With a focus on literacy and mathematical skills, students will be able to review and practice their fluency in these subjects allowing them to launch toward their mastery of these subjects.

The Pre-Launch camp will also help students develop their leadership skills within the academic classroom setting and in the broader community. Students will have the chance to explore academic mentorship skills, shared leadership, and community contributions. With a blended program that involves indoor and outdoor education, students will become more confident within the academic setting, and develop a sense of belonging to the natural and built environment around them.

Four Pillars of the Program

Literacy Skills

The literacy program focuses on equipping students with essential skills to navigate and comprehend various forms of text effectively. Through close reading exercises, literature circle discussions, and research strategies, students learn to decompose information and connect it to their experiences and broader global issues.

Additionally, they receive an introduction to academic writing, including citation methods, which enhances their ability to compile information and express themselves confidently. By engaging in choice-based reading and guided reading sessions, students develop their reading, writing, and comprehension skills, while reflective journaling encourages critical thinking and exploration of ideas. Overall, the literacy program cultivates a well-rounded set of literacy skills crucial for success in high school and beyond.

Mathematical Skills

The mathematics program builds upon students' foundational mathematical knowledge acquired in middle school and prepares them for the challenges of high school mathematics. Through hands-on exploration and group-based activities, students review concepts such as number systems, geometry, statistics, and financial literacy. By applying these concepts to real-world scenarios, students develop a deeper understanding of their relevance and practical applications.

Furthermore, the program emphasizes effective problem-solving strategies and test preparation techniques, empowering students to approach mathematics challenges with confidence. Overall, the mathematical program fosters the development of essential mathematical skills essential for academic success and everyday life.

Community Outreach

The community outreach component of the program encourages students to engage with their local communities, fostering leadership skills and a sense of civic responsibility. Through exploration of neighborhood parks and activities, students develop an appreciation for their surroundings while participating in group activities promotes teamwork and collaboration.

This hands-on approach to community engagement not only benefits the local area but also instills in students a sense of social responsibility and empathy.

Personal Wellness

The personal wellness aspect of the program focuses on nurturing students' social, emotional, and physical well-being alongside their academic development. The Pre-Launch Summer Camp is a 2-week program that runs Monday through Friday from 8:45 AM to 3:30 PM at our Etobicoke campus (2489 Bloor Street West) conveniently located steps from the Jane subway station.
