Introducing Advanced Hockey Training for Student-Athletes at Blyth Academy Whitby in Partnership with Okanagan Hockey Ontario

Blyth Academy is excited to announce a new partnership with Okanagan Hockey Ontario to provide elite hockey development to student-athletes at Blyth Academy Whitby. Blyth Academy's Advanced Hockey Training program is a co-ed individual skill development program for students Grades 6 to 10, which runs Monday to Thursday at Iroquois Park Sports Centre and Move365 Performance Centre. The program puts equal weight on academic excellence. Student-athletes complete their regular schooling at the Blyth Academy campus during the mornings and meet all academic requirements before heading to training in the afternoons.

Blyth Academy is experienced in delivering student-athletes advanced hockey training combined with academics. We have been successfully offering hockey training programs at our Burlington campus, Downsview Park for Elite Athletics campus, and Blyth Academy @CIHA, which has resulted in athletes reaching NCAA D1, CHL and NHL.

Advanced On-Ice Hockey Skills Development

Advanced Hockey student-athletes will take part in on-ice training with Okanagan Hockey to develop fundamentals to advanced technical skills. The yearlong curriculum consists of a wide range of individual skill development and specific gameplay scenarios. Throughout the course of the season, the athletes are introduced to new techniques and progress into executing at game speed. Areas of focus include basic fundamentals, skating development, puck control, shooting and scoring, passing, and defence skills development. Some of the tools being utilized in the season are video analysis of individual skills, combine testing, on-ice training aids, and individual skill development goal setting.

Paul Pascuzzi, General Manager of Okanagan Hockey Ontario said:

“We are excited to partner with Blyth Academy to provide an elite hockey development program to their students. We are looking forward to supporting their student-athletes with the goal of maximizing their individual potential in the classroom and on the ice.”

Blyth Academy Whitby’s Principal, Michelle Pucknell said,

“Blyth Academy Whitby and the Okanagan Hockey partnership will provide valuable opportunities for student-athletes to foster their learning and develop the skills necessary to excel both on and off the ice. We are excited to be combining Blyth Academy’s individualized academic approach with Okanagan’s expertise in hockey to allow student-athletes to focus on their academics and improve their overall physical fitness and hockey skills. This partnership will allow student-athletes to pursue their passion for hockey and incorporate their academics all into a traditional school day.”

Custom-Developed Fitness Training

Blyth Academy Advanced Hockey student-athletes will take part in a high-intensity fitness training session specifically developed for hockey players at Move365. The Blyth Move365 Season Hockey Performance program is built to help every player move better, skate better, and perform better every day. Each training session is coached by Head Hockey Development Coach, Steve Giovannini, in small groups with an emphasis on taking all elements players learn off the ice and transitioning it to on-ice performance.

Registration is now open for September 2023.
