Students Represent Canada at U21 Men’s World Volleyball Championship

Former Blyth Academy Ottawa students, and brothers, Jesse and Mathias Elser, will be representing Canada at the U21 Men’s World Volleyball Championship in Manama, Bahrain from July 18th – 27th, 2019. Jesse, Blyth Academy Ottawa Class of ’17, and Mathias, Blyth Academy Online, Class of ’19, have both been members of Volleyball Canada’s National Excellence Program, a program “designed to prepare athletes to perform at the highest level … and to continue their development towards the National Senior Team Program and/or playing professional volleyball.” Jesse was the first high school-aged player invited to be part of the program when he joined in 2016, and Mathias followed in his older brother’s footsteps two years later. This will be the first international tournament in which the brothers represent Canada together, Mathias as a setter, and Jesse as a libero, or defensive specialist. We’re excited to cheer them, and their teammates, on. Go Canada Go!
