About the Ministry of Education Inspections

The purpose of the Ministry of Education’s inspection of a private school is to ascertain whether the instruction in secondary school courses being delivered is in compliance with Ministry of Education requirements. The structure of the courses, the delivery of the curriculum expectations, the assessment and evaluation strategies and the work of the students must be congruent with:

The Ministry of Education’s inspection report is based on evidence gathered through the review of pre-inspection materials and on-site discussions with the principal and other school staff. Information is also gathered through observations during classroom visits, review of samples of students’ work, examination of school policies/procedures, and the examination of school records.

Going Beyond Ministry Standards: The Globeducate Platinum Standard

At Blyth Academy, we are proud not only to meet the rigorous requirements of Ontario's Ministry of Education but also to go above and beyond through our membership in the Globeducate network. As part of this global education group, we are held to an even higher internal benchmark known as the Globeducate Platinum Standard.

This Platinum Standard is a comprehensive, school-wide framework designed to assess and elevate the overall quality of education, leadership, and student experience. Unlike provincial inspections—which primarily ensure compliance with government regulations—the Platinum Standard is a self-reflective and aspirational process that promotes excellence across every area of school life.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Leadership: Evaluating the effectiveness of communication, staff recruitment, safeguarding, and the creation of an aspirational school culture.
  • Teaching & Learning: Assessing instructional quality, academic challenge, and teacher development.
  • Student Experience: Measuring how well students are supported, challenged, and prepared for their future beyond high school.
  • Global Citizenship: Encouraging sustainable practices, innovation, and real-world learning opportunities that prepare students for global futures.

Schools are evaluated using a structured rubric that categorizes performance as Beginning, Developing, Exploring, or Achieving, with accompanying evidence to support each level. The process is thorough and includes surveys, student feedback, and onsite reviews.
