Small Class Sizes

Our classes have an average size of 12 students, allowing teachers to spend significant individualized time with each student. There’s no “back row” in classrooms this small. Students are more comfortable speaking up in this environment.

Four-Term Structure

We’ve been running quadmesters for over 10 years with great success. This four-term structure focuses on two subjects per term, promoting a deeper understanding of subjects in addition to creating the flexibility for students to join Blyth Academy at any term during the school year.

Robust University Preparation

Preparation for post-secondary education is the primary focus with increased attention on critical thinking, interpreting information, independent learning, and active participation in classes and activities. Our strong guidance department works with each student to define their pathway.

Student Showcase

Nolan Tilson

Grade 8 Student

Nolan is a leader in all areas of our school. In the classroom he leads by example and is a contributing member of our student council! Nolan says "The best word to describe my experience at Blyth would be awesome!   I look forward to going to school every single day and being around other student-athletes pushes me to try my best on the ice and in the classroom."

Blyth has been a wonderful experience for Nolan and our family. The culture at Blyth is more than just athletics, Nolan has been able to continually develop his academic growth, athletic improvement, character development and social responsibility.  The on-campus energy is contagious, all of the student-athletes have a passion for their sport and academics and they push each other to surpass expectations and be their very best.

-Tara (Nolan's mom)

Nolan is a AAA hockey player and puts forth his strongest effort whether he is in the classroom, on the ice or in the gym! Nolan is an ambassador for our new students each year helping provide them with a smooth transition into the school! Nolan continues to impress us with his positive attitude, upbeat personality and commitment to excellence!

Words can't even describe how thankful we are that our son (grade 7) and daughter (grade 9) are attending Blyth Academy. It is incredible the joy and excitement both of my children have learning here. As parents we are so thrilled by their new love of school. Thank you to Principal Hurley and his team. They have gone above and beyond especially with all the Covid concerns this year. The Blyth Downsview team truly cares about all students and their family's well-being. We have had such a smooth and safe return to school. It has been a fantastic experience overall!

Danielle Honsberger, Parent

Our son is in grade five and part of the hockey program. He has never been happier to attend school. Instructors are knowledgeable and not only care about his on-ice performance but also his mental game.
Attention to athleticism and well-being are another thing at Blyth that we are very impressed with. He looks forward to each day consulting with the strength-and-conditioning coach and working out with his friends & classmates. As parents, we are so grateful to see such enthusiasm about school & learning in our son.
We couldn't be more impressed with the school, its people and how our son is thriving athletically & academically and how he is maturing as a young man. We can confidently say, Blyth is the right place for our son.

Jason Hubbard, Parent

This is my son's first year at the Blyth and seeing him excited every morning to go to school speaks volumes to me. The Admin. staff has been amazing at responding to emails and addresses any questions. They keep us informed and we couldn't be happier. Given the current circumstances we are all living through we are confident they are taking all measures to ensure the safety of all students and staff.
