Sept 2021 Truth & Reconciliation Awareness
On our first Wellness Wednesday we focused on developing awareness of the ongoing issues faced by Indigenous communities across Canada. The students viewed a PowerPoint presentation from Ms. Cumming, which covered the topics of residential schools, missing Indigenous women and girls, and the problem of undrinkable water on reserves. The students participated in a drumming workshop hosted by Jody Marsolais, a Certified Vic Firth Teacher/Workshop Facilitator and made traditional Bannock.
Staff and students also organized a Bake Sale to raise funds for the Orange Shirt Society. The students devoured the baked goods and we sold out by the end of the day. The Bake sale raised over $200.00.
