Our classes have an average size of 12 students, allowing teachers to spend significant individualized time with each student. There’s no “back row” in classrooms this small. Students are more comfortable speaking up in this environment.
We’ve been running quadmesters for over 10 years with great success. This four-term structure focuses on two subjects per term, promoting a deeper understanding of subjects in addition to creating the flexibility for students to join Blyth Academy at any term during the school year.
Preparation for post-secondary education is the primary focus with increased attention on critical thinking, interpreting information, independent learning, and active participation in classes and activities. Our strong guidance department works with each student to define their pathway.

Ways to Learn
Full-Year Programs
We offer a comprehensive full-time program for Grades 5-12. Students studying with us for the full year benefit from our targeted programs for specific years: Elementary & Middle School, the LaunchPad Program in Grades 9 & 10, and the Post-Secondary Preparation Program in Grades 11 & 12.
Term by Term Options
For high school we have four intake periods during our school year to make starting at Blyth Academy as flexible as possible (September, November, February, April). This is possible due to our quadmester structure (four terms) which allows for flexibility for students who want to try us out or who are looking for extra credits in a gap year. Elementary & middle school students can join at any time.

Sports & Extracurriculars
Elite Hockey Program
Our hockey and ice sports training is centred on giving our students the opportunity for experiential learning that is geared toward their individual interests.
The benefits of participating in the hockey training program during the school day are that it allows the students the time to focus on their academics and balance the time spent between home, school, and community.
Student Engagement
Our students get the opportunity to engage in learning environments outside of school with common fields trips throughout the semester. Our faculty also designs clubs and extracurricular activities which are tailored to the student population each year.
If you’re looking for a student-athlete program, you should check out Blyth Academy in Burlington. They have an excellent academic program with small classes to engage students, and their hockey program is continually improving. [The Athletic Director] has obviously put a lot of thought and expertise into designing an on-ice program to personally challenge each athlete every single day with different themes and knowledgeable instructors. This is not a gym class on the ice with the run of the mill drills, but rather a structured program to teach kids the various components of the game and the discipline and perseverance needed to improve. I have noticed the passion and love of the game [amongst] staff and how their passion translates into energetic and well-prepared practices that keeps my kid challenged and inspired. Their partners at Twist complement the on-ice practices as they do a fantastic job with the off-ice sports conditioning that is well planned and goal oriented.Stéphane Gauthier, Parent
The 10-week semesters focused on two courses instead of four were an immense help for our daughter. The classes were more intense, and without the need to spread time between so many subjects and the deadlines accordingly helped her progress. Our daughter is now willing to take responsibility for herself, her choices, her actions, and the path towards her future. We are thankful for the time that was invested in our daughter over the past two years of transition for her.Michael & Sheri, Parents
Grade 12 at Blyth Academy was the best year of Dakota’s educational career. Your school made Dakota’s final year of high school not only a happy and joyful learning experience, but her confidence and belief in her own potential were greatly enhanced. I cannot thank you enough for developing and running such an important school.Lisa, Parent
