Course Overview
LWIDU online provides extended opportunities for students to communicate and interact in Italian in a variety of social and academic contexts. Students will refine and enhance their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, as well as their creative and critical thinking skills, as they explore and respond to a variety of oral and written texts, including complex authentic and adapted texts. In LWIDU online, students will also broaden their understanding and appreciation of diverse communities where Italian is spoken, and develop skills necessary for lifelong language learning.
UNIT ONE

Essential Question: What are some common holidays / festivals in Italy? What vocabulary and phrases can I use to talk about holidays and festivals?
In this unit, students will explore different aspects of Italian holidays and festivals. In this context, they will learn new vocabulary words and phrases that are associated with each theme. Students will practice their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills by exploring texts, images, and videos on these themes and will practice applying them to their own experiences and environments.
UNIT TWO
Storia Italiana
Essential Question: What are some key topics in Italian history and why are they important? What vocabulary and phrases can I use to talk about history and historical figures?
In this unit, students will explore key parts of Italian history. In this context, they will learn new vocabulary words and phrases that are associated with each time period and topic. Students will practice their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills by exploring texts, images, and videos on these themes and will practice applying them to their own experiences and environments.
UNIT THREE
Una vita sana
Essential Question: What are some key components of a healthy lifestyle in an Italian context? What vocabulary and phrases can I use to talk about medical and health concerns?
In this unit, students will explore topics related to a healthy lifestyle. In this context, they will learn new vocabulary words and phrases that are associated with each theme. Students will practice their Listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills by exploring texts, images, and videos on these themes and will practice applying them to their own experiences and environments.
UNIT FOUR
Le arti in Italia
Essential Question: What are some important types of art in Italy? What vocabulary and phrases can I use to talk about art, literature, film and music?
In this unit, students will explore topics related to art, such as: literature, film, music, and art itself. In this context, they will learn new vocabulary words and phrases that are associated with each theme. Students will practice their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills by exploring texts, images, and videos on these themes and will practice applying them to their own experiences and environments.
