The Ontario Curriculum: Art
Course Overview
In Grade 7 Art, students will participate in an immersive exploration of creativity through Visual Arts, Drama, Dance, and Music. In Visual Arts, students will explore the understanding of art, art versus culture, the elements and principles of art. In Drama, students will explore ways to create a dramatic presentation while. In Dance, students will identify the five elements of dance and research its evolution. In Music, students will listen to music and respond and reflect on this music in their journal. Through hands-on projects and collaborative activities, students cultivate their artistic abilities, gain cultural insights, and build a foundation for lifelong appreciation and engagement with the arts.
COURSE OUTLINE
Below is a course outline for the online Grade 7 Art course offered by Blyth Academy. As the Ontario curriculum is set by the Ontario Ministry of Education, the course and skills learned remain the same whether you take it in person or online.
UNIT ONE
Visual Arts
Throughout this unit you will explore the understanding of art, art versus culture, the elements and principles of art. You will also discover and apply the concept of graffiti art as well as two-point perspective. Lastly you will explore visual arts disciplines and the purpose of art in our society.
UNIT TWO
Drama
In this unit, students will develop their understanding of elements of drama and techniques. They will explore ways to create a dramatic presentation through the critique of a tableau. Students will also comment and analyze a tableau and if it is effective. They will create a tableau through visual collage.
UNIT THREE
Dance
In this unit, students will identify the five elements of dance and understand some specifics of these elements. Students will also research and recognize the evolution of dance and they will share their opinion on dance as a sport.
UNIT FOUR
Music
In this unit, students will identify the elements of music and understand some specifics of these elements. They will listen to music and respond and reflect on this music in their journal. They will listen to several music selections and comment on how this music creates different moods. They will learn about the importance of music in movies.
ASSESSMENT
The Grade 7 Art course explores purposes for reading a variety of texts, guiding students through reading and developing greater fluency in all aspects of reading and writing.
