Keishawn scored the ultimate hat trick — daily elite hockey training before class, high quality academics, and a possible place in a top NCAA D1 university, for the win. 

“Going to Blyth Academy is one of the best things that has happened to me. The fact that I'm on the ice every morning with very highly qualified instructors, great academic programs and the people in the school are just amazing (teachers, principal, guidance counselor, students). It creates a positive vibe so we can all enjoy our time here.” 

Keishawn is one of the 2022 recipients of the Hockey Equality Scholarship funded by Blyth Academy and the NHL. This gives him a full-ride for his Grade 11 year – something he says has changed his life. 

“My lifestyle has completely changed since joining Blyth Academy. Now, I feel like I’m living like a pro athlete from the food that we get from the school, the education, the training, the values and established athletic culture. The schedule has helped me improve my discipline, be 1% better every day, stay consistent, improve my academics, and enjoy the process. This is the type of life I want.” 

In the classroom, Keishawn is taking advantage of one-on-one support and small classes. He’s maintaining a 90 per cent average so he can make it to a top tier school and further his career in hockey as well as pursue his interest in Leadership and Management – something he’s taken a liking to while at Blyth. 

“I like to be someone who younger kids on the campus look up to. I like to interact with them, laugh, have lunch or help them with their homework. When I was younger, I always looked up to my big brother and I want them to have someone who they can see as an example in the school.” 

Keishawn is grateful to be a part of the Blyth Academy family and doesn’t take any day for granted. 

“The school environment at Blyth is amazing. The energy is contagious. We're all passionate about our sport, academics, and making our dreams come true. We push each other to become better than we were yesterday, and we all benefit from it.”
