What our Teachers and Staff Have to Say

Teaching at Blyth Academy has enabled me to do what I do best as a teacher – form supportive, positive and equitable classroom communities with a small group of students and create hands-on learning that result in doing and making ‘real things’.

Over the last eight years I’ve been able to hone my practice due to the four-term structure and ability to teach the same course multiple times each academic year. This has enabled me to develop a deeper understanding of the curriculum and course content, while exploring fresh and creative ways for students to actively engage in their own learning. As an art and design teacher I’ve been able to create opportunities to lead photography classes into the depths of Algonquin Provincial Park in search of moose, assemble a student-designed production studio that makes apparel and skateboards, produce thought-provoking short films, and co-curate Music, Art and Drama shows.

I’m most looking forward to further expanding on a cross-curricular diploma concentration that blends art, design and business together; providing students with the ability to apply their skills and outside the class and in their community.

Paul Savaria – Teacher, Lawrence Park Campus

My favorite part of working at Blyth Academy is the community of staff, students, agents and teachers I able to interact with daily. In my role I have the privilege of working with a diverse group of people from various ages and backgrounds who all offer a unique perspective into education and the art of learning. Having spent most of my career working in the UK, Blyth Academy has provided me with numerous opportunities to step out of my comfort zone and experience Canadian education first hand; whether that be through visiting a live classroom, volunteer at a teacher led event or attending numerous intentional student fairs, the experience has been expansive and continues to evolve.

Blyth Academy’s passion for global learning, supportive environment and their generous benefits motivate me to want to give my best to every task I am responsible for.

Dami Olugbode – Manager, International Admissions

There are many things I enjoy about working for Blyth Academy. I would have to say the thing I enjoy the most is the positive work environment. I have never met a group of people who care more about the success of the kids with whom they are working. Somehow in all of this, they also find time to genuinely care about their coworkers as well.

I started working at Blyth Academy in August 2013. This is my eighth year with the company.

I run a lot of the charitable activities within my campus. This is a passion of mine, and I am always happy to find new causes! Some of my favourite drives and event we have had are a sock drive for SOCKS Durham, a human society drive and a book drive. These have all gone to help places within our community. It is a job I love and am proud of each and every year!
