Celebrating Sophie: A Volleyball Star and Academic Achiever at Blyth Academy Online

At Blyth Academy Online, we are incredibly proud of our students and their achievements. Today, we shine the spotlight on Sophie, a 16-year-old professional beach volleyball player and full-time student who has successfully balanced her athletic and academic pursuits. Sophie’s journey is a testament to her dedication and hard work, on and off the court. 

A Journey to UC Berkeley  

Sophie has taken her passion for volleyball to incredible heights. Recently, she earned a prestigious volleyball scholarship to the University of California, Berkeley, where she will be playing Division 1 Beach Volleyball. This achievement is not only a reflection of her talent and perseverance but also of the unique educational experience she had at Blyth Academy Online.

By allowing her to manage her time effectively, Sophie was able to travel, train, and compete internationally while staying on track with her studies. In Her Own Words: A Q&A with Sophie

How has the flexibility of Blyth Academy Online helped you reach your athletic goals? 

Sophie: The flexibility and self-guided learning at Blyth Academy Online have allowed me to participate in incredible athletic and life experiences. I have been able to create opportunities for myself as a beach volleyball player in Canada. It has allowed me to continue with the Canadian curriculum while travelling to other countries to compete and train, and it was a straightforward process to navigate! I also earned the chance to travel to China to compete in the U19 World Championships for Team Canada while completing my courses and staying on track with my work. It has taught me a lot of self-discipline and improved my work ethic significantly on and off the court. I am continuing to compete and train internationally and finish off high school learning at Blyth Academy Online. 

How has Blyth Academy Online helped you reach your academic goals? 

Sophie: Through Blyth Academy Online, I have completed high-level courses throughout my high school years, gaining knowledge and experience being independent and self-motivated. The flexibility and self-paced work have allowed me to pursue training opportunities and led me on the path to playing D1 Beach Volleyball at UC Berkeley. I would not have been able to achieve this dream without the excellent education I have received from Blyth Academy. 

What do you like most about Blyth Academy Online? 

Sophie: At Blyth Academy Online, all the courses are extremely clear and well laid out where you can find tools to guide you to success very easily! All of the teachers have provided excellent support with prompt replies and helpful feedback allowing me to excel in this environment. Each course is well thought out and planned, to enhance the learning experience for each student with various different styles of learning.
