Blyth Academy Students Shine at the 2025 Globeducate Model UN Event in Europe

This year, Blyth Academy proudly sent three of its brightest students—Claire, Joia, and Erika—to the prestigious Globeducate Model United Nations event in Europe. Accompanied by their dedicated teacher and chaperone, Mr. Smrczek, these students embarked on a journey that was not only educational but also culturally enriching.

What is the Globeducate Model UN?

The Globeducate Model UN is an international event that brings together students from Globeducate’s 65+ schools worldwide to simulate the workings of the United Nations. Participants engage in debates, discussions, and negotiations on global issues, honing their public speaking, critical thinking, and diplomacy skills. This event teaches students the importance of collaboration, understanding diverse perspectives, and making informed decisions under pressure.

A Unique Travel and Global Experience

Attending the Globeducate Model UN event in Europe offers students a unique opportunity to travel and immerse themselves in different cultures. For the Blyth Academy delegates, this experience was particularly impactful. Thye explored the beautiful city of Valencia, noting its stunning architecture and green spaces, experiencing a culture different from their own.

Student Experiences

Claire, a Grade 12 student, expressed her enthusiasm for the event:

"I really enjoyed my time at the Globeducate Model UN event. I got to meet a lot of people from different countries. I especially enjoyed the chairs of my committee, as they were very professional, but also very fun, and supported me through my speeches."

Claire highlighted the value of meeting students from various countries, such as Spain, France, the UK, and Italy. She found the discussions on the third day of the conference particularly enlightening, as they encouraged her to think about topics from different perspectives.

Erika, also in Grade 12, shared her thoughts on the event:

"I had a lot of fun meeting everyone. It was a really cool experience getting introduced to people from all over the world. I really enjoyed collaborating with my peers on global issues and learnt a lot about different perspectives on the world."

Erika emphasized the importance of understanding different cultures and customs, and how this experience helped her appreciate diverse viewpoints. Her top highlight was the committee sessions, where she felt like a global leader making tough decisions.

Joia, a Grade 12 student attending her first Model UN event, reflected on her initial nervousness:

"It was my first Model UN event, and I was really nervous at first because I thought that everyone was going to be very serious and judge me for not being familiar with it. But everyone was very cooperative and nice to help me through the event."

Joia enjoyed meeting new people and learning about their cultures. She valued the connections she made and the speaking skills she developed, which would be beneficial for her future career in law.

The Impact of the Event

The Globeducate Model UN event provided these students with invaluable lessons. Claire learned to speak up for herself and make informed decisions under pressure. Erika discovered the importance of balance and staying open to different opinions. Joia gained confidence in voicing her thoughts and learned how to conduct herself in formal settings.

Mr. Smrczek was impressed by the students' professionalism and engagement:

"It was really nice to see our students engaging with the event and the conference. They were nervous at first, but they all did amazingly with their committees and took it very seriously."

Overall, the 2025 Globeducate Model UN event was a remarkable experience for Blyth Academy students. It not only enhanced their academic skills but also broadened their cultural horizons, making it a truly enriching travel and global experience. Students from across Blyth Academy campuses have the opportunity to participate annually in the Globeducate MUN and other international events, enriching their overall student experience and global perspective.
