This year, eight passionate high school students from Blyth Academy’s Burlington campus proudly represented their school in the 2025 Globeducate Debates, participating virtually under the guidance of their teacher representative, Ms. Lilliman. As active members of the school’s thriving Debate Society, which spans five grade levels and includes ten students supported by three dedicated teachers, these young debaters continue to contribute to a dynamic and growing community at the Burlington campus.
Now in its sixth year, the Debate Society meets once a week, offering students a platform to sharpen their communication, critical thinking, and public speaking skills. The Globeducate Debates serve as a highlight of the year, giving students the chance to showcase their talents on an international stage.
This year’s event brought together over 300 students from 35 schools across 10 countries, all part of the Globeducate School Group. It was a celebration of global collaboration, respectful discourse, and the power of student voices.
“Debate Society has provided me with a great opportunity to practice and improve my communication, research, and public speaking skills. Being able to participate in the annual international debates is always a fun and memorable experience for me!” — Sama, student
“The Debating Society is amazing because it has helped me become a confident communicator, able to think on the spot and come up with compelling arguments on any topic.” — Izza, student
“Debate really helped to improve my public speaking skills while still incorporating real discussions and fun antics.” — Layla, student
“Debate society has really brought many grades together to create an advanced community willing to debate about harsh topics while keeping it fun and professional, it’s the best part of the week.” — Kaitlin, student
Ms. Lilliman, who has been instrumental in nurturing this community, shared her pride in the students’ dedication:
“For a small school like ours, having so many students come out week after week to debate, to participate, to care about their speaking — it’s awesome and it makes me proud. I think of the Globeducate debates as a way to celebrate what the students have achieved at our weekly debates.”
As part of the Globeducate School Group, Blyth Academy shares in a vision of education that includes collaboration, communication, and community. Events like the Globeducate Debates enrich the learning experience for students by connecting them with peers from around the world.
The Burlington campus may be small, but its voice is mighty. Congratulations to all the students and teachers involved, your commitment and enthusiasm continue to inspire!
