Jake O’Brien made headlines as he was selected 8th overall by the Seattle Kraken. A former student at our Downsview Park campus, Jake’s journey to the NHL is a testament to his hard work and the support of his family and coaches. A touching moment aired on Sportsnet showed Jake and his mother proudly wearing their Blyth jerseys—a powerful reminder of the community that helped shape his path. We look forward to seeing Jake bring his dynamic playmaking to the NHL stage.

Malcolm Spence – 43rd Overall (2nd Round) – New York Rangers

A proud member of the Blyth Burlington Class of 2024, Malcolm Spence was drafted 43rd overall by the New York Rangers. Shamar Moses, a recipient of Blyth Academy’s Hockey Equality Scholarship, was selected 129th overall by the Florida Panthers. Shamar’s journey is one of resilience and determination, and his draft selection is a powerful milestone not only for him but for the broader mission of equity in sport. His success is a beacon of inspiration for young athletes everywhere.
