Costa Rica means ‘rich coast’ in Spanish, and many call it the Switzerland of Central America. The country is endowed with a virtual treasure trove of mountains, rivers, and white sand beaches.

The Monteverde Cloud Forest
For one week we will explore Costa Rica’s natural history and learn about the country’s commendable efforts to preserve the rainforests and its eco-systems. Walks and hikes through the beautiful and lush forests will reveal countless birds, butterflies, lizards, monkeys and many other animals in their natural environment. Don’t forget your flashlight – we’re going on a night hike in search of the nocturnal ones!

Arenal
The Arenal Volcano is one of the world’s most impressive volcanoes. It emerges behemoth-like from the green hills, perfectly cone-shaped and smoldering. We will enjoy a mild hike on the volcano before heading to our hotel and its incredible hot springs at the base of the volcano. Here, a stream is channeled into a thermal wonderland of seven pools of varying temperatures ranging from 27 to 39 degrees Celsius, all flowing through incredibly lush tropical gardens. Paradise.

The Pacific
The next two and a half weeks will be spent at the Villas Mapache located in Playas del Coco, a colourful little fishing village in the province of Guanacaste on the North West Coast. The village is set in a deep cove with a long beach of calm waters on the pacific. This beautiful resort features private villas, terrific food, and private swimming pools.
