Our weekend excursion takes us northward to Venice, known as “la Serenissima,” the most serene. This city, which was built on water, was created more than 1000 years ago by individuals who dared to defy the sea. We will take a vaparetto to our hotel not far from Piazza San Marco, one of the most beautiful squares in the world. A full day of touring will follow to acquaint you with the canals, laneways and grandeur of this remarkable city, including the Basilica, the Museo Correr and the Palazzo Ducale.

Perpetually animated during the day when it is filled with people and clouds of fluttering pigeons, Venice is equally as magical at night. We will visit the Ponte del Sospiri (the Bridge of Sighs) and cross the Canal Grande (Grand Canal) at the Ponte Rialto (the Rialto Bridge), to the surrounding markets and enjoy dinner at one of the canal side restaurants.

After a good night’s rest, breakfast will be served in the hotel and we will have a free morning to explore Venice. We will return to our villa late Sunday evening.

CINQUE TERRE ($150.00 CAD)

Strung along 18km of serrated cliffs, Cinque Terre is one of Italy’s treasures, made up of five villages that are reachable only by hiking and by boat. Wine growers still use monorail mechanisms to ferry themselves up and the grapes down these unique lands, and in some cases have to harvest by boat. If the terraced hillsides are not worked, they will quite literally slide into the sea.
We will depart our villa and drive to the start of the Cinque Terre trails. We will be given a chance to swim and soak in the atmosphere of unspoiled fishing villages. Here we will spend time exploring these beautiful cliff side towns by foot and by boat with our own private tour guide.

GROTTOS, TRULLI TOWNS AND TARANTO IN PUGLIA ($125.00 CAD)

Welcome to a day of adventure in Puglia! We will head out after breakfast for an hour long drive through the countryside and arrive at the Grotte di Castellana, part of a fabulous underground cave system filled with surreal shapes and lighting. We will be taken on a one kilometre hike through the caverns with our own guide. After coming back into the sun we will drive to the valley of the Trulli, filled with the famous conical whitewashed houses made of limestone. After exploring these fantastic villages we will make our way to the beaches near Taranto and enjoy some fun in the sun with time to play in the water and relax on the beach. We will then return to our Villa for dinner. This is a day that will encompass the best of Puglia.
