MEDICATIONS & VACCINATIONS
Medication and vaccinations are a very personal matter, and often a personal choice. For this reason suggest that you contact a travel clinic in order to help you make a decision on the medications to take.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has a very useful website to get you started:
wwwn.cdc.gov/travel/destinationTanzania.aspx#vaccines

They recommend the following inoculations:

  • Hepatitis A, or immune globulin (IG).
  • Hepatitis B, if you might be exposed to blood (for example, healthcare workers), stay longer than 6 months, or be exposed through medical treatment.
  • Rabies, if you might be exposed to wild or domestic animals through your work or recreation.
  • Typhoid, particularly if you are visiting developing countries in this region.
  • Yellow fever, if you travel anywhere outside urban areas.
  • As needed, booster doses for tetanus-diphtheria, measles, and a one-time dose of polio vaccine for adults.

However, we still recommend that you visit a travel clinic and inform them of your destination as information is contantly updated. Our destinations include:

  • Moshono
  • Arusha
  • Tarangire National Park
  • Yaida Valley
  • Ngorongoro Highlands

Where can I find a travel clinic in my area?
To find a travel clinic in your area, just consult your local yellow pages, or visit Health Canada’s Population and Public Health Branch website for information about clinics across Canada: www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/tmp-pmv/travel/clinic_e.html
