Blyth Education
Make a Difference with Blyth's Community Service Programs - Our vision is to transform the lives of our students and staff

Accreditation for Senior High School Students

Our high school volunteers will receive 25 to 40 hours of community service per week, not including pre-project volunteer opportunities. Frequently, students have used these experiences as the subject matter for essays for schools, universities and newspapers or for contemplating career changes later in life. These hours can be used toward completing the required community service hours required for high school diplomas.

Fund Raising and Bursaries

Many volunteers will successfully raise funds to defray their airfare and living costs. We are happy to support these efforts and provide leads and advice.

Awards and Scholarships

These are awarded based on the applicant's demonstration of community service involvement and strong leadership capabilities.

Supervision

Our ratio of staff to volunteers will be in the order of approximately 1 to 6. We provide care and support for our volunteers both during and after work hours.

Language Requirements

There are no language prerequisites. For many participants, our programs represent a great opportunity to start or to improve their language skills.

Our Volunteers

Our volunteers range from 14-19 years of age. Participants’ work is closely supervised and coordinated by professionals who have extensive experience in the areas of education, international development and cross cultural exchange with an emphasis on developing nations.

The Blyth International Summer Programs

Each summer, we take hundreds of students to countless countries around the world. From studying French in Parisian patisseries to pondering classical civilization beside Egyptian pyramids, our programs combine education, culture, and fun to produce transformative educational experiences that last a lifetime. Enjoy!

Dear Blyth Families,

In the next few weeks more than a thousand staff and students will be travelling abroad to do programs and it is timely for us to address the issue of HiNi, the “swine flu” virus. There are a number of steps that your children can take to lower the risk of infection.

Clean their hands regularly with soap and water. If they are showing any signs of flu like symptoms prior to departure see a doctor immediately to determine if it is HiNi. (we can always arrange for later travel)During the course of the program notify staff immediately if they have flu like symptoms.

Avoid large crowds in Canada prior to departure.

The good news is that virtually all the countries that we travel to have a much lower incidence of HiNi than Canada which means that leaving Canada is a safety measure. Recent records show that Canada has reported 5,710 cases while Italy 88, France 150, Greece 48, UAE 5, Costa Rica 177 to name a few. We will be providing hand cleansers at meals on all of our programs and will immediately take students with flu like symptoms to local hospitals as a precautionary measure. One of the benefits of the WHO pandemic alert is that hospitals around the world are well versed and prepared to deal with HiNi infections. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. The best way is via email at samblyth@blytheducation.com

Yours with best wishes,

Sam Blyth
