More details to follow, but please
check with Jaason Geerts before initiating any of the following
projects:
-
Cuba MB Community Service at the Good
Shepherd Centre for the homeless.
-
On Sunday, February 24th from 10 –
2, View Foundation volunteers will have an opportunity
to meet our staff and fellow volunteers, gain volunteer
hours, and help the homeless. The Good Shepherd is located
at 412 Queen St. East (on Queen, one block east of Parliament)
across the street from St. Paul’s Basilica. It is
easily accessed from the Bayview Extension or the Gardiner
(take the Parliament exit). Due to number restrictions,
this event is only open to Cuba MB volunteers; however,
there will be at least one event for each summer project
as well.
For more information or to RSVP, please contact Alexandra
at alexandra@blytheducation.com
or (905) 889-8081.
View volunteers can contribute to the communities
they will be helping and earn extra community service hours
ahead of time using any of the following options:
Five Kinds:
- Fundraising:
for the communities we will be visiting.
- Goods collection:
volunteers can arrange collections for items such as school
and medical supplies at their schools, churches, or community
centres. The goods can be delivered upon arrival on site.
- Pre-project
research opportunities in any area of interest
(e.g., music, the environment, zoology, literature). View
volunteers will research aspects of the community they
will be visiting and present them to their fellow volunteers
to enhance the educational component of our projects.
- Volunteer
Events (Toronto area): View staff will arrange
at least one volunteer event before leaving for their
projects. This gives volunteers a chance to get to know
each other, earn extra hours, and introduces them to the
Leadership component. More details to follow.
- Adopt a Project point
person. Registered View volunteers who encourage their friends
to join them as part of the Adopt a Project initiative are
eligible to earn extra hours. For more information, please
see the Adopt a Project page.
Volunteers will be awarded community-service
hours for all their background work (for which they have received
approval).
