Why Choose Blyth Academy?

Small Class Size : The average class size at Blyth Academy is 8 students per class with a maximum of 12, yet we often run classes with as few as 3 or 4 students. These numbers allow our teachers to focus on each student, both during and after class time. The positive and nurturing environment that we create at Blyth is a key component to the academic success of our students and ensures that each one receives the individual attention that allows them to succeed.

Scholarships and Bursaries: At Blyth Academy, our recognition of excellence and our belief in accessible educational opportunities for all is reflected in the scholarships and bursaries we award yearly. The Academy offers a comprehensive program of merit-based scholarships and need-based bursaries in excess of $50 000.

A Successful Tutorial and Mentoring System: Based on the academic model that is the foundation of such schools as Oxford and Cambridge, Blyth Academy has introduced a tutorial system whereby each student meets once a week with their assigned tutor to discuss their progress and any concerns the student might have. This means that the progress of each student is constantly monitored and, in the event of any academic concerns, action is immediate. We also offer a Supervised Homework Program in the evenings and a course-specific Tutorial Program for students who may require additional support.

Superior Faculty: We have 31 years' experience in delivering first-class international and domestic academic programs which means that every year we attract the interest of over a thousand qualified teachers who are interested in working with us. Our strong reputation gives us the advantage of being able to select the very best teachers from across Ontario. All of our teachers are Ontario Certified and are selected for their course-specific depth of knowledge and their ability to relate to and engage with young people. The teachers are always available outside class hours to provide additional support for students and parents throughout the term.

Our Focus is on the “Whole Child”: All of our full-time students receive a membership to a first-class athletic club adjacent to the school. This feature allows students to work out during a spare period or before and after class. We also organize ski days, sports matches, school dances and community-service projects to broaden each student’s experience at Blyth. As a result, the majority of our students normally double the 40 hours of Community Service that are required to graduate.

Exceptional Guidance Service and Support: We have an excellent Guidance Department to counsel each student through their university application process and to ensure the future success of each student. The Head of Guidance also keeps the lines of communication open with parents along the way. Our online academic reporting system allows students, parents and teachers to track a student’s academic achievement throughout the term, thereby immediately addressing any academic issues that might arise.

Blyth Academy graduates have a 99% acceptance rate to their first choice of post-secondary institutions within Canada and abroad. Furthermore, in the past year Blyth Academy students were awarded over $100,000 in scholarship funding.

Modern School Facilities: The Blyth campuses are located in tasteful, bright, well-kept, air-conditioned buildings where the students feel secure and comfortable. We offer Wi-Fi and a computer lab on-site, a comfortable common room, bright classrooms, quiet work and study areas and a compact kitchen where students prepare their lunch between classes. We have worked to create a warm and inviting atmosphere and an environment where our students can truly thrive.
