Letters From a Students

Dear Mr. Blyth,

Throughout my years in high school, I have constantly had problems identifying with my teachers. The teachers at Blyth, however, identified my needs as a student and helped me learn the course material better than I ever possibly could have in a regular school. Instead of just learning a formula and spitting back out a number. I learned how to understand the meaning behind the formula and the significance regarding it. In my old school teachers just taught the lesson and expected you to know when to use it. That is something that I learned here at Blyth, not with my old teachers. The teachers at Blyth are amazing teachers and love to teach. My math teacher, Mr. A, was an especially good teacher, as he should he captivated my attention, he built a desire in me to continue to pursue my knowledge in math. I came home at night and actually looked forward to doing my homework, not just to finish it but to get the right answers.
When changing schools, I left a lot of friends behind in a public school system that was not working for the students.  This became most apparent when my friend came over desperately seeking help for a math test, unable to connect or even understand half of what her teacher was teaching. Thankfully, through the hard work Mr. A had put in, guiding me through out my mathematical accomplishments, I was able to successfully decipher what the lesson was actually about. Her teacher had carelessly thrown at her useless information that had nothing to do with what the lesson was really about. After about half an hour of helping her out, she understood it and was one of the few people to get over an 80 on the test the next day.
As I leave a huge chapter of my life behind, I am prepared to embark on a new one. Blyth helped me gain the knowledge and confidence in myself that I will need to do well in university. Before I came to Blyth I was scared of going into university, let alone one of the best business schools in Canada but now I can honestly say that I am ready.   This is what Blyth and Mr. A have done for me; they have given me deep understanding of my studies and prepared me better for university than I ever could have imagined.

Dear Mr. Mackinnon,

I would like to thank you very much for everything you have done for me:

1)  faciliating the scholarship
2)  referring me to the mentorship program - which
enabled me to learn and grow and to meet
amazing people in the scientific world - which I
hope to be friends with forever
3)  writing the many excellent reference letters
4)  your willingness to help in every and any way

I will remember all the things you have done for me, and
wish all future Blyth students a year as special as mine.

Sincerest regards
