Academic Administrator
Reports to:Academic Director/Guidance Head
Location: New campuses in the GTA
Primary Role: Responsible for the campus reception (phone & in person) and administration on a campus level pertaining to enrolments, private courses, student life, etc. Also responsible for ensuring efficient and professional campus operations. Manages academic facility, office supplies and equipment. Directly responsible for monitoring student arrivals and departures.
Job Details:
- Attendance – Calls late & absent students. Updates Maplewood accordingly. Keeps Academic Director advised
- Answers phones and in person inquiries
- Check voice mail and return calls
- Oversee campus security, grounds, cleaning and similar operations
- Support teachers as required – copying, equipment
- Co-ordinates text book ordering and delivery
- Prepares curriculum packages
- Prepares Blyth promotional packages
- Organizes logistics of volunteer days and field trips, permission slips, arranging transport
- Distributes user names and passwords for Maplewood
- Organizes (space allocation, teachers) and records information pertaining to Private studies
- Collects fitness forms and e-reader forms from students
- Manages office supplies and invoices
- Manages library of computer equipment and e-readers
- Assists in organizing and managing special events eg. Open Houses
- General campus administration, site management and liaison with Head Office
- Uploads e-readers on a per term basis
- Assist Academic Director with preparing report cards and transcripts for full, part-time and private studies
- Follow up on OSR requests, coordinate salient OSR information via HO
- Ensure filing systems for course work is updated
- Burning any DVD’s as required
- Coordinating special academic programming eg. Math Tutoring with respect to classroom allocation, teachers and teacher payments
- Perform other duties as required to assist in the smooth running of the campus

Position: Academic Director - Barrie
Reports to: The Academic Principal of Blyth Education and to the President and Managing Director
Primary Role: The Academic Director will oversee the academic integrity of the Blyth Academy model for full-time, part-time and private study, including summer school, at the new Barrie campus of Blyth Academy. In this role he/she will be responsible for creating a caring and empathic culture where students thrive. The Academic Director will be required to develop this new private high school including attracting the initial class of students.
Job Specifics:
- Hire and oversee the Barrie campus staff including Guidance Head, Academic Administrator and teachers
- Conduct student entry interviews drawing upon input from Admissions, the academic Principal and the Guidance Head
- Hire and Manage teachers as required, ensuring course outlines, profiles, exams and standards of evaluation are in line with Ministry standards
- Create school timetables in cooperation with the Principal & Director of Guidance according to written policies and standards
- Assist in marketing the school and attracting students
- Oversee Maplewood internet information system on a per term basis including transcript updates
- Ensure ongoing Maplewood reporting requirements are also met
- Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures as they affect the campus
- Interface with the Principal and/or the Director of Student Life on campus-wide community service initiatives and events
- Responsible for the Barrie Academy budget
- Maintain appropriate liaison with local landlords and service providers as required
- Prepare and execute campus orientation programs, Open Houses and other special events
- Submit all paperwork at course completion to the Academic Principal
- Interface with parents and families with respect to issues (absences, lates, behaviour) as required
- Assist with curriculum development and teacher training for the campus
- Oversee Full Time, Part Time, Private classes and summer school at the campus
- Assist in counselling students in secondary course selection over four terms
- Assist in counselling students on post-secondary course selection including OUAC applications
- Responsible for developing the Academy’s standing in the community and for developing a healthy school atmosphere that supports growing admissions
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- Undergraduate/Graduate degree & Ontario College of Teachers Certification
- Minimum of 5 years teaching experience
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong leadership skills and proven track record of working effectively at the high school level
- Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, Maplewood)
- Energetic team member who flourishes in a fast-paced environment

Position: Queen’s-Blyth Worldwide Program Manager
Who are we looking for?
Reliable, organized, dynamic, flexible and well-travelled people for Program Manager (PM) positions on our university level educational summer trips. Our most successful PMs are positive, enthusiastic, outgoing and engaging. A Program Manager will ensure our Sessions run smoothly. A PM must be a multi-tasker as they are in charge of accounting, logistics, research on the local environment and managing the ever changing group dynamic.
What is your role?
You are responsible for the safety and well being of the students in your care.
You will meet the students at the airport and travel with them on their 3 week-long Session (in May and June). You will check-in groups at their hotels, accompany the group on excursions, eat meals with the group and lead daily meetings detailing the schedule for the day. You must also problem-solve any issues that arise locally.
You must be comfortable working long hours. This job isn’t for the faint-hearted as the students will be able to contact you 24 hours a day with any concerns, worries, or problems.
Special skills
You must be fluent in English, and the local language of the destination you wish to work in. You must have a good understanding of the local culture, history and geography of the destination. Previous experience leading a tour or working with young people would be an asset.
All applicants must have good communication skills and be mature enough to lead a group of university aged students. You must have completed, or be pursuing, a College or University Degree. You must also have a passport and completed police record check.

Our Sessions will take place in several locations. We have Sessions running in Costa Rica, France, Greece, Italy, Spain and Australia & New Zealand. They are operating in May and June 2012, and each Session is 3 weeks long. These educational trips are a way for university students across Canada, and internationally, to learn experientially and earn credits toward their degree.

The Queen’s-Blyth office staff, based in Toronto, ON and Kingston, ON will be there to train and support you throughout the trip.
An Activity Coordinator (AC) will be in location with you to work alongside you. The AC will be in charge of organising activities outside of class time and supporting you in your role.
The instructors will be in charge of teaching and leading their academic excursions. They will also eat meals with you and be able to support you in supervising the group.
NB: If you feel you are right for the position however can only work in May OR June, we will still consider your application, however preference will be given to those who can work in both months.

Position: Queen’s-Blyth Worldwide Activity Coordinator
Who are we looking for?
If you’re energetic and fun, full of ideas of ways to engage groups of young people, and keen to travel then we want to hear from you. To be a great Activity Coordinator (AC), you’ll need to have good people skills, be organised as well as independent, and have the ability to occupy a dynamic group of students with mixed interests.
What is your role?
As an AC your role is to organise free and low cost activities in location in order to occupy the students in their spare time (outside of classes, academic field trips and optional excursions), for example, planning trivia nights, or taking a group to a local outdoor concert or sporting event.
You must be comfortable working long hours. This job isn’t for the faint-hearted as you are there as support both to the Program Manager, who is on call 24-7, and to the instructors, who may need assistance such as on field excursions.
Special skills
Previous experience working with young people is a benefit. Any outdoor activity or sports qualifications, such as yoga instructor, kayak instructor, Dive master, etc. are an advantage.
