New Orleans continues to be one of America’s most culturally and historically rich cities, in spite of hurricanes, tropical storms and oil spills. We will travel to this coastal gem to assist in reconstruction efforts and community projects.
OUR WORK
Following Hurricanes Katrina
and Rita, there is no shortage of work to be done. Many neighbourhoods have been left devastated and empty. We will be assisting with reconstruction efforts by helping with renovations on damaged homes, schools, and community centres. Helping support better access to food will also be a priority of ours, from working in food distribution centres to building community gardens.
OUR PLAY
Thankfully, some of the most beautiful parts of New Orleans
have been left unmarred, including the French
Quarter and Garden
District. We will enjoy art and music in the birthplace
of jazz, with evenings off to take in live music and dancing
and to sample delicious Cajun
cooking. We will also take time to explore the bayou, with
boat tours and visits to traditional southern plantations,
manor homes, and the Mississippi river.
ACCOMMODATIONS
Students will stay in twin, triple or quad rooms with private bathrooms. Laundry and telephone facilities will be available for a small charge. Breakfast and dinner will be provided, with vegetarian meals available upon request.
