Bhutan
Calling all adventurers! This is your opportunity to visit the Land of the Thunder Dragon: the small, remote, Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan. Bhutan allows only a few thousand visitors through its gates every year, maintaining its policy of “high value, low impact” tourism. Bhutan is a sought after destination because of its stunning national beauty, success in preserving its national identity and unique approach to development through its guiding principle of Gross National Happiness.
OUR WORK*
Students will work in classrooms in schools in rural and urban areas alongside volunteer teachers who have been placed in the country by the Bhutan Canada Foundation. In Bhutanese schools, the students will interact with local students of similar ages in both educational and recreational settings, encouraging cultural exchange and understanding among all involved. Students will also work on environmental projects in Bhutan; more than a quarter of the country is protected as national parks, and Bhutanese are committed to the conservation of their beautiful natural environment.
OUR PLAY*
From our flight into Paro, we will glimpse Mount Everest. Over the course of our trip, we will have the opportunity to hike to impressive national sites including the majestic Tiger’s Nest Monastery, visit dzongs (where monks are trained), learn about the national sport of archery and be fitted for national dress.
ITINERARY*
Approximately 1 day in Thimphu, 3 days in Punakha, 2 days in Phobjikha Valley, 3 days in Paro and 1.5 days in Kathmandu, Nepal.
